	Steps (All Machines)
1	If more than two steps, access by an incline system preferably via a stairway but as a minimum with an angle of inclination from the horizontal no greater than 75 degrees
2	First step to be rigid
3	Steps must be designed to prevent foot slipping laterally off the step and of sufficent width to allow the placement of two feet
4	No rungs. Step treads must be flat, antislip with have a minimum depth of 75mm
5	First step to be no more than 300mm off the ground
6	At least the steps likely to be damaged (for machines intended use or when being transported) must be retractable out of harms way
7	Powered retractable steps external alarm to give prior warning of activation
8	All risers to be of consistent height and of consistent inclination between landings
9	Handrails and handholds to be placed along the access system to provide intuitive and continuous support to a moving person and to enable users to maintain three points of contact. Continuous handrails are preferred over hand holds
10	Primary access system to be lit from ground level
11	Where it is forseeable that foot placement may be required on a machine for access (in addition to access systems, walkways and platforms) for whatever reason then anti-slip material must be affixed to that surface
12	Cab door shall be opened from a step of sufficient width for the placement of both feet no more than 500mm off the ground.
13	Guardrails should ideally be 1200mm (min 1100mm)
14	Wherever access is envisaged it should preferably be via a safe working platform. If not practicable, then via a platform with continuous handrails or handholds and safe anchorage point(s) to allow safe movement along its length so as to prevent an injury resulting from a fall
15	Safe working platforms and platforms must be positioned at, or be adjusted to, a height suitable for the envisaged tasks (e.g. to eliminate the need to stand on handrails to gain additional height)
16	Platforms must be of sufficient width to allow unrestricted forward facing passage of user along its length with a min width of 550mm. Where these can forseeably be used for mainantence they should be of a minimum width of 750mm
17	Provide a temporary grid capable of being placed over jaw crusher opening for walking on during maintenance
18	At the top of an incline access system which leads onto a safe working platform, the opening shall be fitted with a self closing swing gate, opening inwards and secured by a latch, capable of being opened one handed
19	Power units to be positioned such that they can be readily accessed for inspection, maintenance and repair e.g. without having to climb over or under structures
20	Hatches and door opening for access for routine maintenance shall permit opening and closing without infringing on the individual whilst maintaining three points of contact where this cannot be carried out from the ground or a safe working platfom
	Tracked Machine Additions
21	Tracks must not be used as part of the access system with or without three points of contact
22	Track surface must not be used as part of the walkway
23	No step is to be recessed such that it is not visible when viewed from above by the operator prior to exiting from the machine facing either backwards or forwards
24	No step shall be positioned on or in-between the track frame
