WHAT HAPPENED

During recent high winds, a section of the cover over the main aggregate conveyor managed to become unattached from one of our plants and fell to the ground.
Fortunately there were no personnel in the area where the canopy landed.
The consequences could have been fatal if the canopy had fallen on anyone.
The hook, which held the spring over the canopy, appears to be intact and all of the remaining attachments seem to be firmly fixed.

A thorough check the rest of the canopy is being carried out by the Company who constructed it.
Although the weather conditions were severe, it may need the fixings to be changed to stop this happening again.

LEARNING POINTS / ACTIONS TAKEN

This incident highlights the importance of regular inspections on ALL areas of plant.
In addition, we all need to be alert for anything which could fall off fixed plant / buildings and cause injury.
