TITLE
Fixed ladder safety bar
ARTICLE
The access ladder to the winch deck on the hot storage bins was equipped with a safety chain to prevent operatives inadvertently stepping over the edge. However, this was reliant on staff replacing
it once they had passed through, and also forced them to release it while stood at the top to gain access to the walkway again.

To improve safety, a one-way spring-loaded control barrier was installed at the top of the ladder, removing the possibility of staff leaving the ladder unguarded. The barrier also pushes easily out of the way when stepping from the top of the ladder back onto the walkway, removing the need to let go of the ladder in order to move the barrier.
