Fall Prevention Improvements - Safer Access and Egress from the Top of Fixed Ladders |
ARTICLE
|
Description
On ships it is common for either chains with karabiner or bars and gates to be fitted at the top of ladders to prevent falls. The person using the ladder has to unhook or open these devices by taking one hand off the provided handrail / stanchion whilst holding on with the other hand. During this procedure the person could lose control and fall to the deck below.
CEMEX UK Marine Operations have changed this so that the person using the ladder can now climb onto a stable platform before having to take a hand off the handrail to open the gate. This ensures that the person maintains contact at the critical stage at the top of the ladder.
Benefits
• Reduces the risk of falling from height whilst using a fixed ladder • The modification can be applied across all industries.
