Eliminating confined space entry in asphalt plant |
There was a potential health and safety issue caused by a confined space entry into the overchute where the stone is passed over the screen down a chute. Problems recurred with oversized debris becoming caught and blocking the passageway. The only way this could be resolved previously was by a worker climbing into the bin and having to unblock it. This was a dangerous practice.
To resolve this, a doorway was built which has enabled workers to access any blockages at the problem area. Now access to the blockage can be reached from outside rather than inside the bin. This has removed the danger which existed before. The blockage is now also below rather than above the worker which is also a health and safety improvement.
