Conforming isolators - dead or alive - there’s no second chance |
Description
Following an incident involving a primary crusher and a faulty isolator handle connecting shaft, Singleton Birch conducted a review of their isolation and lock-off procedures.
The outcome was the “Singleton Birch Specification and Use of Conforming Isolators /Switch Disconnectors for Isolating Electrically Powered Plant Machinery and Equipment”
Benefits
Isolation facilities and isolation/lock-off equipment are compatible
Equipment is consistent with the documentation of the isolation and lock-off procedure
Clearly labelled electrical equipment, isolators and emergency stops identifiable by their relationship to each other
Control devices are not used as isolators
Emergency stops in close proximity to isolators and drives ensures that the current can be safely interrupted under all conditions
The system of isolation is constantly monitored
Close supervision and regular reviews are carried out with input from workers. |
