The fact that this Channel Islands quarry drills its blasting holes at 93 mm rather than 115 mm diameter means that little space is available to erect standard edge protection fences for the lone operative working with its drilling rig.
Granite Products fabricated its own solution – an easily collapsible barrier that can be erected from five lightweight pieces in no more than two minutes. Using materials sourced from a company that manufactures temporary staging for pop concerts, the barrier is stored in a rack on the drilling rig, assembled in a safe location and then manoeuvred hydraulically into its working position.
