Empowerment by employee involvement training |
Description
Lafarge identified that not all employees and permanent contractors had the confidence or felt empowered to address health and safety issues at work.
To address this, a three hour, interactive workshop was targeted at non-managerial grades. It was delivered to over 1200 people over a three month period.
Its aims were to ensure participants:
Understood the need to get involved with safety
Recognised that safety is the number one priority
Understood the key H&S activities that needed their involvement
Identified specific ways in which they would get more involved in safety
Understood their managers’ and H&S professionals’ commitment to safety policies
Identified any barriers preventing them from getting more involved in safety
Identified opportunities for Lafarge to improve its method of involving employees and contractors.
Benefits
Improvement in employee participation and pro-active involvement
Increased requests for further training in RA /SSOW
Employees willing to call “Time Out” and stop work on safety grounds
Helped HSQE advisors to give feedback and support local management teams |
