FINALIST - Safer handling of inbound amd outbound material
At Hanson’s Chipping Sodbury Quarry there was a problem with the design layout of the storage bays which resulted in the the loading shovel operator’s visibility being limited whilst working in this area. The loading shovel reverses towards the main access road to the site which is used by more than 200 vehicles per day.
Whilst the area is wide enough to operate safety and the loading shovel does not need to obstruct the main access road, it was recognised that additional controls to empower the machine operator while working in the area. An incident had had occurred in this area when Cat 980M loading shovel and concrete mixer truck collided.
