An operator’s hand was lacerated when they attempted to remove a piece of aggregate

An operator suffered a laceration to his right hand when attempting to flick and remove a piece of aggregate from a moving trough roller on a feed belt. The site had experienced issues previously with the belt scoring and eventually splitting.

The IP was not wearing gloves and the plant was not isolated.

• Ensure you apply LOTOTO prior to interacting with any machinery. Never be tempted with “I’ll just”….
• Review your risk assessments for conveyor safety and use a schematic as shown below to identify dangerous nip points.
