A driver was traveling to a customer site down a narrow country road, they entered an area of temporary road works. As the driver drove through and then exited the road works, the near side wheels of the mixer truck, went on to the roadside verge. 

The verge was soft and gave way, resulting in the mixer truck rolling on to its side coming to rest in an adjoining field.

No injuries were sustained, and the incident is currently under investigation.

• Assess the road conditions, including temporary conditions e.g. road works. Is the road adequate for the size and weight of the vehicle.


• Ensuring you reduce/match your speed for the road conditions.


• Be aware of the dangers of driving on roadside verges, which may not be capable of taking the vehicle weight.


• Be prepared to stop rather than driving onto verges or other soft ground
