WHAT HAPPENED
A 10 tonne Bomag 161-AD4 tandem vibratory roller slewed off a low loader trailer during a short journey from a compound to the site. The incident did not result in injury, but could quite easily have led to multiple fatalities as the machine came to rest on a pedestrian footway.
Considerable damage has been caused to the machine amounting to thousands of pounds. Whilst an in depth investigation into the events surrounding the incident is underway, initial findings cite the use of inappropriate restraining devices and the recommended machine tie down points not being used.
