Whilst preparing products for loading onto lorries at a precast concrete stocking yard, a stack of pallets collapsed. It was lucky that no one was in the area when the incident occurred as they could have been seriously injured.
The incident was caused by several factors, including banding to a customer’s pallets, which were of varying condition and sizes, and stacking too high.
In line with DVSA guidance the member company had initiated a policy of banding to pallets but was also doing a local collect customer a favour by banding to their pallets.
As the fourth pallet was being placed in a stack, the second pallet broke, allowing the top three pallets to tip to the side.
