Safe maintenance through competency |
Description
Tarmac identified 61% of its maintenance injuries involved the use of small tools and equipment. It took the following action to improve the competency of its maintenance teams; . 1. Set up a bi-annual assessment of maintenance employees competency, identifying gaps and creating an individual performance development plan 2. Established Maintenance Section Leaders (MSL) Forums. These meet 4 times per year to share best practice, discuss common issues, agree key messages and maintenance strategies for the future 3. Developed a detailed Toolbox Talk for the maintenance teams titled ‘Safe to be a Fitter’ 4. Introduced a maintenance management system to remove the risk from unplanned breakdowns.
