The South East Region of Tarmac asked a cross-section of people in the business to get involved in reviewing a variety of safety issues at a number of different sites. Involving people who know what’s really going on has delivered significantly better results than the traditional management-led approach. Below are 3 examples of the outcomes

• 85% of staff stated ‘My manager listens to my ideas and views’, an 8% improvement from 2010 • 87% of staff believe their manager treats them with respect, a 6% improvement on 2010 • 9% improvement in employees who felt their contribution was valued within the business • 93% of staff believe health and safety is taken seriously in Tarmac.
